Me & curved seems

I am a huge fan of quilts with curved seems! I have alwys been intimidated by them so I've never made them. I think that besides the curved seam it was the cutting. I didn't want to cut all of those pieces. I did try once and it did not go well. So when my Mom asked me what Accuquilt dies that I wanted I listed all of the dies that had curved pieces. So my husband went in with my mom & got me the Drunkards Path die for me for Christmas. I was thrilled!!!! I had to start playing with fabric immediately.
I know that DP is usually made with just 2 colors. I decided that I wanted to make my first DP quilt using Civil War reproduction fabrics. I started to sort fabrics. The scraps had to be a certain size in order to fit the die. I was a little concerned at first I didn't think that I had that many large pieces.  Low and behold I do! My husband will be thrilled this color way is right up his alley. I'm piecing it on my treadle. I started it on my hand crank but she has become cranky & the tension is not right. I'm hoping that it will be done in time for my guilds show this year. They are having a display of quilts that have been made on a treadle or hand crank machine. I'll keep y'all updated on my progress. I hope that you had a great Christmas. We had a great time here. I'm off to pin more pieces. Have a great night

A day of binding

I'm all caught up on my binding. Woohoo! I think that binding is my least favorite part of the quilt process. I had 2 baby quilts & one for me to put bindings on.
The first baby quilt is for some friends second baby girl. I made it on 66 red eye treadle. I love working on my treadle. Do fun & relaxing. All of the fabric for the top was scraps.
The next baby quilt is for my best friends sisters little girl. I used some extra trip around the world blocks & put a fun purple border on it.
Then it was time for me to finish the latest string quilt. I'm not sure what to call this quilt. Those colors just "Pop" against those black strings.

I hope y'all have a good day. More later on

This crazy thing called life

My world has been a crazy swirl of experiences  in the last 3 weeks or so. My husbands grandmother passed away the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Her funeral was the day after Thanksgiving. The next week was full before it started. It was packed with running concession stands at my kiddos school, my kiddo getting braces & participating in our churches  Christmas play. This week my kiddo had his Christmas band concert which he did well in & then all three of us got sick. My kiddo bounced back from it the fastest, which I'm happy about. Then my husband. Unfortunately I'm still fighting the cough & a horse voice. No fever though & that is huge. With all of this going on in my world I have not gotten my Christmas tree all the way up yet. I did get the furniture moved & the tree up but that is it. I messed with the silly lights for a few hours yesterday. My husband says that there is a broken wire somewhere & we should check the after Christmas sales for a new one. We'll make do with this one this year. My kiddo & husband got almost all of the lights to come on. In all of the hectic things that life has given me I haven't had very much time to sew :( I was able to get all of my blocks made & the body of my quilt made. I just have not had the opportunity to put the borders on. Maybe later on today I can sew but I need to do some house cleaning before I can sew. I hope y'all are having a wonderful holiday season. Stay warm. More later on,

What a day!

In the last 2 days I have received emails from two different people telling me of a large scrappy fabric sale. So off I went. There is a quilt shop about 45 min from my house that is moving. They had pre made scrap bags or you could make your own for $5.  Well I made my first round & was talking to the owner while checking out. She said she had more scraps was I interested? Yes I am!
She came out with paper ream box & a large shopping bag. I asked her what she wanted for both of them & she said $20 for each. SOLD!!! There is no way I could have purchased all of this fabric for $40. I'm pretty giddy right now. I've have to start some bread & then I can dig in & play with the scraps. Hope y'all are doing well. Change of design

I had this design in my head & how it looked was awesome, in my head. When I made enough of the block parts for 4 blocks I layed them out to see what it was going to look like. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I didn't like it either way I put it. The black as the diamonds or the red. So I let them sit for a while. Then another idea hit me & I like this block so much better. I had made 95 sixteen patch blocks & I needed to make 5 more. Now I am in block construction mode. There will be 25 blocks in the quilt & each block is 16" finished. I'm not sure yet what the borders will be I guess I'll just wait & be inspired. All of the fabric except the black is scraps that I got at a quilt store or was given  to me. I 'm on a mission to use up what I've got. Hope y'all are doing well. I'm headed back to the sewing machine. I want this quilt done & on the bed of couch by Christmas. More later on,
